remind的基本意思是指通过一定的媒介或激发而慢慢想起某事(做过或应做某事)。这事可以是全然忘却的,也可以是一时想不起来的; 这媒介则是引起人们回忆的外界人或事物。
remind只用作及物动词,可接名词或代词作宾语,也可接双宾语,其直接宾语可由带或不带疑问词的动词不定式、that从句或以疑问词引导的从句充当。
remind常和介词of连用,表示“提醒注意未来的事”或“使想起过去的事”的内容, of的宾语可以是名词、动名词,也可以是疑问词引导的从句。
remind作“提醒”解时与remind about同义,其主语只能是人,作“使想起”解时主语通常是事物。

remind接双宾语时其直接宾语可以是动词不定式,也可以是介词短语“of+ v -ing ”。它们之间的区别是：前者指将来发生的事情,而后者则指过去发生过的事情。试比较以下两个句子：
